**Fingerprinting** is a tracking method that identifies a user based on the unique combination of their device, browser, and system characteristics —*without* cookies.

Think of it as a “digital scent trail.”

*your browser gives you away; It leaves behind a digital scent trail*

A fingerprint can include:

- screen resolution
- installed fonts
- GPU model
- CPU architecture
- timezone
- language
- canvas rendering quirks
- WebGL output
- audio processing signature
- browser version
- OS version
- touch support
- battery API
- media codecs
- list of enabled features
- IP address

Each of these is not unique alone — but combined, they form a **statistically unique profile**.

Fingerprinting is powerful because:

- it works even in private/incognito mode
- it persists across sessions
- it bypasses cookie blockers
- it’s invisible to the user

This is why ad‑tech loves it.
